I know it may be obvious, but it does sound like it's running rich. Sooty plugs and it not needing any choke to start... An MGB always needs choke to start in my experience from cold, even at a nice warm time of the year. I'd look at adjusting your carburettors and turn the mixture screw on each car...

Hi it sounds like it could be your carb floats. If you take the float bowls off the carbs you have plastic floats inside, if one or both of these leaks they trap fuel inside and cause the overflow into the overflow pipes. Welcome to the forum. Have you emailed or checked with Heritage body panels? Get a part number from them or check the website here:

Then you can shop around for the best or cheapest supplier once you have the part number.

Hi Rick. Best bet is to go a bit higher up the lead. So check you're getting current to the coil, turn the ignition on and put your voltmeter on the coil and negative battery terminal. If the coil has current you know that should be ok, so it could then be a HT lead or the condenser in the Dizzy etc...
