Twin SU carb worries

Post by Lachk71 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 6:55 pm

Hi all, started a little project on a 1980 MGB GT this week.

It's been standing for two years, but a new battery and a tightened connection on the fuel pump and we are up and running.

Sounds terrible and stalls off choke even when warm. Any ideas? I don't want to start dismantling carbs but I have a horrible feeling that's what the advice will be.

Thanks for any advice guys :)

If stalling off choke you are either running too lean on the mixture screws, or as you say the carb set up is off or the carbs aren't balanced properly at idle.

Also check your rpm tickover isn't too low.

Best to start fresh and follow the tuning procedure such as in handbook/Haynes etc. Let me know if you'd like me to dig out the steps. Good luck! :)
