So how many MG's do you have?

Post by allanr » Tue Oct 08, 2013 12:58 pm

I now have collected the following :- 1972 MGB, 1972 MGB GT, 1972 MG Midget, 2003 MG Rover TF, 1970 MGB waiting to be restored, an MG 1300 Spannish built I believe and is registered as a 1972? it has a Vandan Plas interior and also waiting to be restored and last but not least a 1970 Morris Minor.

Firstly I am restoring a Morris Minor van for friends which has been bit of a weldathon and is now waiting for me to respray it.

I live in NE Scotland and all the cars are maintained by myself and I might be considered a little crazy but all my cars are available for self drive hire.

They give me plenty of problems to solve.

Welcome everyone to the new forum

Allanr :)

Wow, that's pretty impressive! Where do you park them all?
Just the one BGT for me - a 1979. I did consider getting a modern TF last year to replace my daily but one thing or another just got in the way.

Collecting becomes bit of a habit I still always look at what is for sale and have to resist buying. The Tf only arrived at the expense of an MG ZR.

The only way I can keep them is by hiring them out it pays for their keep but not enough to pay for restoring them!! I really want an MGC and V8 to make a full set.

That's a lot of MGs - imagine one day owning the full set!

I've just the one MGB GT 1978 Rubber bumper at the moment which I'm booking in for a Chrome Bumper conversion in December.

Then maybe one day I can also do a v8 conversion! It's a shame you can't also do a Roadster conversion or my car would be all of the B's in one!!

Just the one, a 1973 chrome bumper MGB roadster.
Currently SORNed because it needs a new brake master cylinder (i think) and i've not had time this summer to look at it. Other than that it's in generally good working order, it just needs a bit of tarting up here and there.

You've got some great action shots Oily-hands, going through all that water! I'd be too scared my car cut out!

What's the story with the MGB GT two-tone darker bonnet? It looks really cool, but I'd guess the factory wouldn't paint cars like this would they? Was it a different bonnet or a custom paint job?

Haha I'm loving 'The Weekend Warrior' name...

I'm a great believer in using my cars and I don't treat them gently. Having said that, compared to some I am gentle.

The water wasn't really a problem. If it had soaked the electrics I'd just have had to dry them off.

When I bought the GT, somebody had fitted a bonnet and tailgate from a black car, presumably because the originals were rotten. I get out & about on quite a few club runs and on a couple of occasions people came to talk to me and said that they'd seen the car on my website and recognised it with the black bonnet.

When I got it painted earlier this year I decided to do the bits black again to keep its identity.

It also had three spotlights on the front. The centre one was past it, but I do plan to fit the others back on when I get chance.

That's true, I'd recognise it anywhere Owen - I even managed to find that B of yours in a car park of about 2000 B's at the birthday bash at Blenheim last year, proper needle in a haystack :)

It's fantastic how cars have personalities. A guy up the road I know has an MGB GT and he's fixed a small metal squirrel on the bonnet. So it's a bit like a Rolls Royce or Jag from the front of the car with a "flying" mascot!

Even I was lucky to find a dog grill guard on eBay made especially for MGB GTs to fit in the back - making my own car more recognisable. Apparently they're no longer available...
