Hi!

As a new member of the forum I would like to start with very basic question. What kind of coolant should I use with my MGB?

Hi Kiki,

I'm not sure what others recommend but I've always used Bluecol in my MGB GT. Bluecol is an old-school anti-freeze brand and was used back when these cars were new!

It's kind on your hoses and pipes and doesn't have anything harsh in there - great for classic cars:

It's never let me down and is easy to see in the expansion-tank being a nice strong blue colour.

Agree with this. As a 'new' owner I have just changed all the (30-year old) hoses and gaskets and researched this thoroughly.

Bluecol 2-year blue. From their website: "Bluecol 2 year blue antifreeze and engine coolant does not incorporate Organic Acid Technology (OAT) and is suitable for classic & vintage vehicles."

More pointedly, you MUST avoid many 'modern' antifreezes (including Bluecol 5 Year - red label and red cap) as they contain OAT and are incompatible with older materials.
