Hi everyone.

At about 3,000 rpm, I began to hear what sounded like a rattle. Acceleration, releasing gas, and abrupt changes in engine speed are the most common causes.

Even after changing the oil, the noise persists.

Since I've been experiencing a noise upon first start for some time, I am beginning to suspect the timing chain.

I wouldn't anticipate a chain problem with the car's 125k km, but I have only had it for a few months and am unaware of what transpired previously.

Have you ever encountered this? Does this pose a danger when driving?

We have no idea what you're talking about when you ask us to judge an engine based on a sound we can't hear. If all you want is a guess, then by all means, go ahead and make your guess; after all, you're the only one who can hear the noise.

Perhaps locate a mechanic and invite him along for a test drive to help him identify the source of the noise.

Are you aware that there can be up to five distinct engine options for a 3G Grand Vitara, depending on the market and the year? If you want us to stop guessing, just change your login to reflect YOUR engine variant. Given that there is a diesel option, it stands to reason that there will be significant differences between diesel and gasoline engines, including distinct timing chains.
