MG MGB Roadster 1979

Post by NorwegianMG » Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:54 am

We recently bought our first MG here in Norway (very excited), but there seems to be a problem with it. And this is something that we are having a hard time figuring out what is. So, we decided to try our luck here, in the hopes that somebody had come across something similar before.
There seems to be a rambling sound coming from the engine when it's fired up. You can hear the sound when the engine is idling, but it's more prominent when the engine is revving and at the point when the revving is stopped, highest at the exact point when revving goes from up to down. We have opened up the cylinder head and had a look at the pistons form the top (they seem firm and looks hardly used). Then we opened the bottom pan and there is no trace of anything wrong. We have also tried starting the engine without the exhaust systems (almost impossible to hear anything) and we have tried without the dynamo connected. So now we don’t know what to investigate future, and we turn to you guys.
Thank you from a Norwegian MG aficionado :D

It would be best to record the noise and post it so it can be listened to.
