Oil Filter change

Hello First visit
Please could anyone advise me why oil is gushing out of the filter area just changed the canister type and i cannot get it to seal cleaned the mount checked the seal on the filter ???
How far do you have to screw it on hand tight or more
the car is a MGB GT 1971

Hi I had this very same problem.

It turned out the thread on the filter base was threaded. I had to get a replacement filter base in the end, as no matter how much I tried to tighten it or re-thread it oil would still leak. This was due to the last filter being tightened up too hard.

They are only meant to be put on hand tight - you shouldn't need to use a tool or anything to put the filter on.

It may be that yours is also cross-threaded. If you run a little oil around the seal of the new filter, then spin it on hand tight that should be enough to get it to seal...
